Functional Lead Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Functional Lead to join our Marketing Operations team. The Functional Lead will leverage process-specific subject matter expertise to guide their team and collaborate with client contacts, driving standardization and consistency in operations. This role requires strong leadership skills, a proactive approach to improvement, and a commitment to best practices.
You will be responsible for:
- The candidate will be responsible for supervising a team of 12 direct reports and will oversee all related responsibilities associated with being a people leader, including team management, performance evaluation, mentorship, and fostering a positive work environment with minimal oversight and supervision from Marketing Operations SMEs and Team Lead.
- Creates and documents best practices within their functional line of ownership and shares with Marketing Operations team.
- Proactively identifies and recommends improvements within their functional lines to appropriate Marketing Operations SME.
- Works with the Marketing Operations Vendor Management SME to maintain RC Calendars and staff assignments to optimize service levels and maintain fiscal responsibility
- Defines intake process for their teams work to ensure efficient routing and team utilization
- Ensures marketing reports are processed and maintained (expiration reports, brand prioritization reports)
- Completes quarterly audits with RC teams and coordinators to observe interactions and identify coaching opportunities
- Ensures rewards and recognition are issued, documented formally (i.e. to be used for leadership presentations) and escalated to the Vendor Management SME for transparency back into client leadership
- Schedules quarterly check-ins with Marketing Operations Team Lead and Vendor Management SME to present quarterly challenges the Functional teams are facing to get support and resolutions to challenges, discuss team performance, observations, and identify process improvements required.
- Maintains staffing plan lists and leads the onboarding, equipment maintenance & ordering of supplies Meets with Vendor Management SME on a monthly basis
- Implements mechanisms to improve operational metrics and tracking to ensure that the process conforms with contractual requirements, legal obligations, and policies and procedures.

Must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or related field. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional related experience on a year-for-year basis. Alternatively, candidates with an associate degree and two additional years of related experience may also be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. A minimum of four years of related experience, including at least two years of managing employees and performance management.
- Pharmaceutical industry experience
- Strong understanding of the MLR process
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
- Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Nice to have:
- Experience managing remotely based team members.
- Experience managing large teams (10+).
- Experience using Veeva Vault platform.
- Experience with process improvements (Lean process, Kaizen, and/or Six Sigma)
