Role: Medical Director
Job Description: The Medical Director oversees and is responsible for the quality and consistency of the scientific content development process. Working collaboratively with medical writers and other members of the creative team, this individual is accountable for the development of promotional medical education while ensuring overall content strategy throughout the campaign reflects a deep understanding of the healthcare professional mindset.
In addition to core content leadership, this role carries a strong strategic component; the Medical Director will lead scientific strategy, translate complex clinical data into clear, commercially aligned narratives, and ensure that every message is tailored to the needs, challenges, and behaviors of specific HCP audiences. This includes interpreting how different clinicians think, what information they prioritize, and how scientific insights can empower decision making across diverse practice settings.
As client facing partner, the Medical Director will represent BioPharm Communications across content strategy discussions and scientific storytelling presentations, as well as be responsible for conducting expert interviews. They will articulate the healthcare professional point of view, guide clients toward content that resonates authentically with their target audiences, and help shape programs that ultimately support better informed clinical decisions.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the strategy and development of scientific content for assigned brands—from kickoff discussions through launch of marketing assets.
• Drive scientific strategy by assessing how clinical and scientific data can inform overall brand messaging, content priorities, and campaign strategy.
• Translate complex data into compelling, commercially aligned narratives that help clients clearly communicate therapeutic value and differentiation.
• Proactively engage with clients throughout content and asset development, ensuring scientific direction aligns with brand and program goals.
• Serve as a medical liaison between the agency and key opinion leaders (KOLs).
• Collaborate cross functionally with internal and external teams to ensure scientific accuracy and seamless execution.
• Ensure adherence to BioPharm’s core operating philosophies, department processes, and high standards for scientific quality.
• Uphold a hyper focus on accuracy, clarity, and integrity of all scientific content and team output.
Key Requirements
• Advanced degree in the life sciences (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD).
• 8+ years of experience as a medical content or medical affairs professional working with promotional materials for pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and/or device products.
• Strong ability to communicate scientific concepts clearly and confidently to clients and experts across a range of therapeutic areas.
• Experience translating scientific data into strategic messaging or commercially relevant narratives is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with legal, medical, and regulatory review (LMR) processes.
• Strong medical or scientific writing experience; promotional medical education experience a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong listening and analytical capabilities.
• Proficiency with Word®, Excel®, PowerPoint®, and Adobe Acrobat®.
• Proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and timelines.
• Ability to work onsite hybrid 3 days per week or if remote, able to spend time in the office monthly
Compensation & Benefits
The role offers a competitive compensation package aligned with seniority, comprehensive benefits, and the opportunity to join an agency with strong growth momentum and a collaborative culture.
